All Adult Learners and tutors must participate in a free interview prior to paid services to ensure compatibility on both side. For scheduling a free introductory interview, please click “Book A Session” in the main menu and select the first service, “Introductory Interview,” on the service listings.
Please refer any qualified Tutor candidates you know who can work with Adult Learners in your area to the program manager.

Florence Hardjono
Florence is a licensed speech-language therapist with over 30 years of experience teaching and providing therapy to people of all ages ranging from babies through early intervention programs all the way to adults and the elderly. In addition, she teaches college courses in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Florence wants adult learners to know that she loves teaching and her teaching/intervention philosophy is to "See the DONUT and not the hole!" She believes that together we can use what we can do (ability) to build the bridge that will help us address the disabilities! She loves music and creativity and strives to make her sessions interesting and FUN! One of her strengths is the innate ability to think outside the box and use her creativity to utilize different strategies when things are not working the way they should.
Ingrid Swisher
Ingrid has 23 years of teaching experience, including classroom instruction and in-home tutoring. She has access to Orton Gillingham, Stevenson, and Wilson materials and many resources to help improve reading comprehension ( materials for vocabulary, making inferences, visualizing, sequencing, etc.)
Jessica Bennett
Jessica is a licensed early childhood educator with ten years of experience in the field. Throughout her career, Jessica has supported students with a variety of abilities and needs.
Jude Black
Jude is a certified intervention specialist with a reading endorsement. Throughout her professional career, she has served as a middle school intervention specialist, a home instruction tutor, an elementary principal, and currently she is a Special Education Director. Jude believes that with the correct INDIVIDUAL education plan, everyone can succeed in learning!
Katie Brammer
Katie has ten years of teaching experience and has worked with students of all abilities. Since completion of her Orton Gillingham training, she has embraced 1:1 tutoring and is a strong believer in explicit, systematic, and multisensory instruction that is driven by student need
Kayla Amedro
Kayla is a licensed intervention specialist with 18 years of classroom teaching experience at all grade levels. Kayla is excited to join Adult Literacy Ohio because teaching has always been a passion for her, and she believes that extended learning opportunities for students who have graduated are so important!
Kaylee Cottom
Kaylee is a former public-school teacher (grades 7th – 12th) and a current employee at the Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Kaylee is excited to join this program because she is passionate about reading and writing and believes that access to these skills is a human right. She knows that these skills are gateways to confidence, independence, and self-advocacy.
LaBrena Simmons
LaBrena has 25 years of teaching experience at all grade levels including adult education. LaBrena is also an independent provider for people with developmental disabilities. LaBrena uses the PCI Reading Program which is a research-based curriculum created specifically to teach students with developmental disabilities, autism and significant learning disabilities to read. LaBrena is elated to join this program and fill the gap in adult education efforts for those with disabilities.
Laura Smith
Laura is a veteran educator with over 24 years of teaching experience, including work as a home instructor, private tutor, and most recently, as a Title Reading Specialist. She has experience working with students with developmental disabilities, including Down Syndrome and Autism.
Lauren Racela
Lauren has four years of classroom teaching experience in grades 8-12 and tutoring for grades 3-8. She is passionate about one-on-one tutoring because of the amazing impact she has seen through that work.
