All Adult Learners and tutors must participate in a free interview prior to paid services to ensure compatibility on both side. For scheduling a free introductory interview, please click “Book A Session” in the main menu and select the first service, “Introductory Interview,” on the service listings.

Please refer any qualified Tutor candidates you know who can work with Adult Learners in your area to the program manager.

*Adult Literacy Ohio has the authority to reject any adult learner or tutor for reasons not related to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information.

She has access to Orton Gillingham, Stevenson, and Wilson materials and many resources to help improve reading comprehension ( materials for vocabulary, making inferences, visualizing, sequencing, etc.)

Jennifer Barstow

Jennifer has been working with adults since she volunteered with ATCO, the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Ohio University Respite Program in 2010. She was also a tutor at the Ohio University Academic Advancement Center. Additionally, Jennifer also used to volunteer for the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities. She is excited to use her background and experience to serve adults in the Adult Literacy Ohio Program.

Kay Kaple

Kay is a licensed elementary educator with 31 years of teaching experience, mostly at the 6th grade level. Kay also has 14 years of tutoring experience across grades K-12. She loves collaborating with specialists and has served many students with a variety of abilities and needs over the years, including but not limited to hearing impairments, cognitive delays, language processing disorders, and mental health challenges. Kay is excited to join the Adult Literacy Ohio program because she believes that everyone deserves to learn under the guidance of a knowledgeable, compassionate and empathetic teacher who truly cares about others. She embraces diversity and looks forward to designing personalized instruction for her adult learners in this program.

Kimberly is an Early Childhood Educator/Tutor with a master’s degree in education from Grand Canyon University. She is also a Certified Life Impact Transformation/Life Coach and owner of an educational services tutoring business. She is a published author and a motivational speaker. Kimberly has always been a lifelong learner that enjoys using every opportunity to make it a teachable moment to pour into her students to be successful.
