Ashley is a licensed intervention specialist and has over 12 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities ages 5-32. Prior to teaching, Ashley was an Inclusion Support Specialist at Columbus Parks and Recreation where she advocated for and modeled best practices for inclusion throughout the Central Ohio community. Ashley is passionate about building relationships with her learners and having fun while teaching reading skills!

Atanya Brown

Atanya is a elementary school Intervention Specialist working with children in the 4th-5th grade. I also have experience working high school age students with various learning challenges. Last year she received her CALP (certified academic language practitioner) certification. She can speak some Spanish and has taken English as a Second Language classes. Atanya uses Orton Gillingham in her tutoring. She shares that she hears stories from parents of her students about how they are not able to read. Atanya is excited to join Adult Literacy Ohio to use her knowledge of reading with adults who are excited to learn and really want the opportunity to work one on one with a qualified professional who can help.

Bri Brove

Bri has twelve years of teaching experience in grades 4-12. She has served on Intervention Teams, taught a Columbus State Remedial English Course, and tutored students in reading with a variety of needs. She has had 30 hours of Orton Gillingham training and incorporates that into her reading and writing instruction. Bri wants learners to know that she is patient and understanding and has a true passion for watching something “click” with her learners. Bri would also like families to know that she has two children with medical needs, and it is her top priority to make sure that learners and families feel comfortable and safe.

Dona has been a special education teacher for 22 years and has worked with a variety of grade levels. She also brings a personal passion to this work as she has a daughter with Down syndrome. Dona is excited to join this program because she knows that the ability to read and write can help people be more independent and do so many enjoyable things.

Hailey Tharani

Hailey has seven years' experience teaching literacy skills to 9th and 10th grade students. Her experience includes teaching reading and social studies through College and Career Readiness Reading Standards, usually to high schoolers reading at an elementary level. Hailey is excited to join Adult Literacy Ohio because she has a cousin with a severe learning disability and has seem how important literacy is in her daily life – from being able to access reading material that engages her to the ability to have a job in the community. She loves reading and would like to work with others to instill that passion in them and give them even greater access to the wonderful world of literature!

Jennifer Barstow

Jennifer has been working with adults since she volunteered with ATCO, the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Ohio University Respite Program in 2010. She was also a tutor at the Ohio University Academic Advancement Center. Additionally, Jennifer also used to volunteer for the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities. She is excited to use her background and experience to serve adults in the Adult Literacy Ohio Program.
