Rachel has 6 years of teaching experience in an elementary special education classroom. Her student teaching included experiences with high schoolers and young adults through the age of 21. She uses multisensory reading techniques to engage her students in hands-on learning. Additionally, Rachel is a caretaker for her adult sister with Down syndrome. Rachel shares that she is excited to fill the gap in adult literacy programming for adults because she has a personal view on the importance of reading as an important functional skill. She sees firsthand how this impacts her sister’s day-to-day life, opportunities for employment, and her ability to live more independently. Rachel enjoys her job with young children but looks forward to using her skills to help adults with disabilities create a more independent life. In her spare time, Rachel loves to watch OSU football, hike, and spend time with her golden retriever!
